Peer-to-peer where the network allows it, with a relay fallback when it does not.
Calls are one to one or group, voice or video, and start from a conversation.
How the connection is made
The call is peer to peer where the network allows a direct connection. Where it does not, which is common behind strict network address translation, it falls back to a TURN relay run by one of our infrastructure providers. This is stated rather than glossed: a relayed call does pass through a third-party server.
During a call
- Mute, deafen, and turn the camera on or off.
- Share your screen.
- Switch audio output between speaker, earpiece and Bluetooth.
- A quality indicator reads good, fair or poor.
Missed and declined calls
Both leave a message in the thread, with a control to call back.
